Label Text
This print was made three years after Duveneck met Whistler in Venice. Among the group of American artists who made Whistler-styled prints, Duveneck most thoroughly explored the pictorial potential of Whistler's preoccupation with the canals of Venice. It is more vigorously etched, however, than any of Whistler's delicately rendered designs, and is larger in size as well.
