This watch replicates Renaissance watches designed in geometric forms. While watches from the Renaissance are rectangular, this watch is octagonal. Its outline is more in keeping with the fashion at the end of the nineteenth century when jewelry and watches were created with balanced, tighter designs. Like its prototypes, the lid and bottom of this watch are fashioned out of faceted rock crystal with black, green, blue, and mauve champlevé enameling decorating the mounting. The bezel around the dial is decorated with a leafy design in green, blue, and orangish-red champlevé enamel. The dial is champlevé enameled in a scroll-like pattern in purple, blue, and green within a black border. The Roman chapters are black champlevé enamel. In contrast to the predominantly blue and green enamel on the watch, the trefoil pendant is enameled white.
