During Turnfests, German social clubs competed for prizes in gymnastic exercises. Most of these gatherings also featured parades, fireworks, pageants, and picnics. The 1894 festivities in Dolgeville were especially elaborate, according to the newspapers of the day. The reports specifically mentioned the creation of this stoneware mug for the occasion.
